about us

AASA (Action Aid for Societal Advancement) is a not-for-profit Charity and Non-Governmental Organization that has its roots in Hyderabad, India, and aims to branch out expansively in the future. We, at AASA, are driven by the ideology of transforming society through the holistic development of each individual. AASA endeavors to create such a favorable environment for each and every member of the society by furthering the causes of education, development, and empowerment.

The main beneficiaries of AASA’s initiatives are Farmers, Women, Youth, and Children. AASA’s passionate team of founders and an exceptional Advisory Board comprising retired IAS officers are an asset to the organization.

Launched with the purpose of furthering the concept of “giving” and “charity”, a virtue deeply entrenched in our traditional and cultural mores, AASA’s primary objectives focus on changing the consumerist attitudes of the current generation and motivating them to donate for various causes championing the underprivileged. So far, AASA has worked with several orphanages, shelter homes, state-run prisons, and old-age homes and has been successful in bringing about a positive impact on the lives of its inmates.

AASA also manifests the role of bridging the gap between the Government and the common man. Coordinating with the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund (CMRF)for release of money for the treatment of 5-yr-old cancer patient, Ayushi and collaborating for the rehabilitation of the flood victims in Kerala during 2018-19 are just a few examples of AASA’s enterprise.

While the act of giving to the needy is indispensable in nature, the evils that give rise to disadvantaged and underprivileged individuals in our society are all interconnected and have a mutual bearing on each other. For example, several women are subjected to harassment, domestic violence, and other atrocities. Lack of a support system, financial and emotional dependency sets their entire life on a downward spiral. Without intervention, it is highly possible that the vicious cycle of suffering would recur in every generation.

Yet, donating money or articles for the less fortunate will not bring about a change. Those affected by adverse circumstances must be empowered to be financially and emotionally independent, through education and training, so that they can help themselves, and their children, to have a better tomorrow while guiding several others to stand up for themselves.

AASA thus attempts to attack the root causes of societal evils in our society – discrimination, patriarchy, illiteracy, etc. This is precisely why we choose to keep our approach multi-pronged, as restricting AASA’s activities to just one cause would be limiting for progress and transformation. AASA aims to bring about this metamorphosis in the society as a whole by transforming individuals at the grassroots levels so that a balance of physical, mental and emotional development is achieved.

AASA’s major initiatives in this direction have focused on Workshops, interactive motivational talks, encouragement for expression of creative energies, career guidance and even counseling sessions that work on improving self-esteem, confidence, and also work towards breaking down psychological and social barriers of regressive thinking. AASA’s four projects: Project Khushi, Project Sambhaavana, Project Prerana, and Project Vidyadhari are all multifaceted initiatives that reflect the idea of individual progress for the betterment of society at large.

Some of AASA’s upcoming initiatives include the introduction of Health camps in Tribal Areas; yoga and meditation classes for students and teachers in rural areas; facilitating training for the farming community on better, up-to-date farming practices, natural farming cropping patterns, organic farming, etc.

We at AASA, believe whole-heartedly in the power of human potential for kindness and compassion. Tapping that potential and pooling resources for the upliftment of the downtrodden is what we strive for.
